Practicum Goals
1. Incorporating literacy into my daily lesson plans
Rationel: To use literacy components to guide my teaching and to enhance the learning experience for students throughout all subjects that I teach.
Strategies:
- I will provide reading material relevant to the science lesson for those students who learn better by reading.
- I will have a writing component for students to write out what they learned in class.
- I will have inquiry questions that can be found in the provided reading materials.
Indicators of Success: When students learn new concepts in science class, having a literacy component in conjunction with a learning center will help the students process and retain the new information.
2. Incorporating differentiation instruction
Rationel: To use a wide variety of tools to assist student learning through tiering, UDL and the modification of lessons according to the level of understanding of within my multi-age classroom.
Strategies:
- I will use learning stations / centers to enhance students' learning with hands-on materials
- I will differentiate my formative assessments through oral conference, written response, and graphic organizers.
- I will support project based learning so students can demonstrate their learning at their level of understanding and interest.
Indicators of Success: I would like to continue diversifying my classroom activities and assessment techniques so that I have a better understanding of what my students know and what they need to know.
3. Classroom Management
Rationel: Classroom management starts with building rapport and setting expectations to continue the maintenance of the classroom community throughout the year.
Strategies:
- I will familiarize myself with the school policies and procedures.
- I will set the proper tone to show my students that I am an authority figure within the classroom by being assertive, fair, and consistent.
- I will build a classroom community by ensuring that the needs of all students have been met.
Indicators of Success: I believe that if effective and positive classroom strategies are used, it will create a classroom environment where students can gain a greater understanding and respect for the curriculum learning objectives.
