Practicum Goals
1. The creation of comprehensive unit plans
Rationel: Students should understand what and why they are learning. In the classroom, you as the teacher are there to entertain the students. The students should be engaged and want to learn the content to then further apply it to real life situations. The classroom should not be separate from the real world, it should be the gateway to help students understand and navigate the real world.
Strategies: Creating extensive unit & lesson plans with the focus of engaging students by relating concepts and content to the real world and student interests. Building a relationship with the students and understanding what the students like to do outside of school, their strengths and their weaknesses.
Indicators of Success: I will include fun activities within the lesson that meet the Alberta Program of Studies outcomes. These activities of hand-on learning, structuring the class where there is minimal lecturing and more students involvement within the daily lessons.
2. Incorporating differentiation instruction
Rationel: Not all students learn the same way, and I may have student(s) who have exceptionalities in my class. The use of differentiation learning strategies will not only help the students with exceptionalities but also assist students who learn differently; kinaesthetic, read & write, or visual.
Strategies: Modifying teaching strategies to use more visuals and hands on work, and giving the students a choice on how they would like to complete a project or assignment allows students to use their strengths within the classroom.
Indicators of Success: When making lesson plans I will have a differential column so that students can still complete the work to meet the outcome but can do it by a different means. Students can take different paths of learning to arrive at the same destination. These differential instruction will be used in class alongside of my regular teaching practices.
Courses:

ED 3602- Educational Psychology of Exceptional Learners
ED 3603- Social Context
